Right, there has had to be some changes because of the Connaught Championships which have to run Sunday due to organizational reasons. As they are running an event on Sunday the 19th we are going to move the single speed event to the Saturday the 18th, in the afternoon, which will allow much more drinking on the Saturday night in Galway. On Sunday then, any one who gets up can go and compete in the Connaught Championships or there will be a recovery spin one some of the local trails for everyone else.
The event will still take place in Kilcronin Woods, Clarinbridge near Galway (Directions to come) but to give people a chance the get there, sign-on will be from 12 to 1 and we will start at about 1:30. Entry will be 10 euro each to cover insurance and costs and everything else will go on drinks for the Saturday night. For the people who have asked, this is not a UCI points event and it just to crown our national single speed champion, there will be insurance cover and the event will be marked etc..
As I write there will be a mass start of some sort followed by about three or four laps of the 6km of single track and then a prize giving. We will then move to the pub in Galway (Links to accommodation and beer to come) where we can discuss the meaning of life early into the early morning and all wake up wondering what happened the night before.
This event is kindly supported by West Coast Wheelers and run by some random guy called Ollie, if you have any questions post on the forum, email me on oliver.castle@tribeguru.com or drop me a line on +353 (0) 862255391.

Kilcornan Woods, Clarenbridge, Co. Galway
So here it is the first single speed national championships to ever hit the shores of Ireland. With great thanks to the lads of Galway we will be running the event in association with the Connacht Mountain Bike League on the 19th October in Kilcornan Woods, Clarenbridge near Galway.
By all reports the course is about 6km of fairly flat but seriously fast trails with about 90% of it being single track so looks time to get those small cogs out of hibernation and prey for the rain to stop. The amount of laps is yet to be decided but will probably be based on the amount of beer consumed by the riders the night before.
Keep checking the site for details and we will publish them as they become more clear. The current plan is to go for a sociable ride somewhere on Saturday and then some beers on Saturday night followed by a race on Sunday.
May this be the first of many single speed championships….
